Cleaning day

Today I don't have to go anywhere so my hubby took the car to work himself.  So I'm home alone with my 4 year old.  What's a girl to do all day long?

Clean!!!!!

It's time to straighten up after a week of adventures in our house.  Now, I do clean during the week, but about once a week I give the house a good cleaning as a clean slate.  Kind of starting over.  It's still not perfect because let's face it,  we actually live in our house with a 4 year old boy.  Impossible to keep clean.  But I try to spend a little bit of time everyday to keep it all under control.  So today will be laundry day for Ben and then putting things back in their home and dusting.  I will vaccum and clean the toilet today.  I have two bathrooms, but Matt uses that one alone so that's his job.

Let's talk cleaning supplies.  Do you just buy what's on the shelf at the store or are you trying to find something less harmful to the environment?  I had to change after my husband started chemo.  The smells if conventional cleaners hurt his lungs and made his nausea worse.  I even made my own laundry soap.  I also have asthma so when I switched,  it was also good for me and my lungs.

Here's the recipe for an all purpose cleaner.

2 tsp vinegar
1 tsp borax
1/4 cup Castile soap
Essential oil for scent
Distiller warm water

Funnel vinegar and borax in a spray bottle.  Add Castile soap and a few drops of essential oil and swirl.  Fill with warm water.  Swirl again.  Use as needed on counters or anywhere you need a good cleaning.  Shake before using.

I love it and use it in my kitchen mostly.  It's safe for wood.  I also use lemon essential oil because it has anti microbial properties.

I hope you enjoy and comment if you have a favorite cleaning recipe to share.
